How It Works In Brief
WaveSync has two "play modes"; it can either play your sequence in real time through your sound card, or it can mix the sequence to an output file. Each mode has
advantages and disadvantages:
Play Mode
In realtime play mode, WaveSync just plays the sequence through the sound card, mixing the samples as it goes. You will use this mode while you are working on a
tune. The advantage of this mode is that you can move events around, loop, insert and delete events while you listen to the tune, and you don’t need to wait to be
able to listen to the changes as you make them. The disadvantage is that the speed of your computer and hard disk will restrict the sound quality you can listen to
unless you have a very fast machine indeed.
Save Mode
In "Mix and Save", WaveSync doesn’t make any noise at all, but instead puts the audio data into a Wave file on disk. The point of this mode is that event on a slow
machine you can still produce a CD quality output file. It might well take longer to mix the output file than it would to actually listen to it, but at least it can be done!
Making A Sequence File
To make a sequence, first use the "add new entry" menu command or speed button to add one or more pre-existing wave files to the wave pool, then drag and drop
them from the wave pool into the sequence at the required position and track. You could instead use WaveSync’s "record" button to record directly into the wave
pool.
Playing A Sequence
Once you have at least one event in your sequence, you can play it by pressing the Play button. The first time you play a sequence, WaveSync will probably need to
make some files appropriate to the sound format you have specified using the "Specify Realtime Play Format" command in the "Mix control" menu. These files are only
made when you insert a new event, edit an existing wavepool entry’s wav file, or alter the quality specification.
Mixing A Composite Output File
Works exactly like realtime play, except that you need to specify a file name using the "Specify mix output format" menu command in the "Mix control" menu. Since
you will probably have a higher quality specified for mix outputs than for realtime play, it will take longer to mix to an output file than to play the sequence, and again
there will be substantial pauses while original files are converted unless the required output format is the same as all the event input files.
